Covered in Crayola Colour

'Chapped and chippy' aquamarine and
'orange peel' tangerine, are what I
named these bright, bold hues; bet the
Pantone people would not be amused.

  Covered in crayola colours,
this public school built in 1900,
is more reminiscent of a charming cottage
than a place that houses ABCs and numbers!

Stucco, stone, wood, and iron, the
 stars of this scholastic structure,
together teach a lively lesson in
classical Cretan architecture.

A few villages over, a farmhouse,
 pebbled in earthy, faded tones,
 shows signs of having weathered
storms; no doubt, due to the
soldiers set in stone, still
 standing at attention.

Meandering through mountainous terrain,
I eventually reached the northern coast,
where sailboats, bobbing on bouncy waves,
didn't stray too far from sandy shores.

Back among fruit filled trees,
branches blowing in the breeze,
bare vines, (the black sheep
of this gnarly brood), being in
a gloomy mood, refused to budge.
Alas,the sweet and juicy fare
they bear, not there to dress
their lonely limbs, left the
pruned and prickly trunks, feeling
 desperately miserable and grim.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. What a gorgeous post, Poppy. I love those Crayola colors. Even the harbor is still white and gray here today. I am longing for the burst of Crayola colors that only spring can bring...I'm am impatiently waiting for tulips and daffodils to burst from the ground. A few more weeks, maybe....

  2. The Pantone people need to visit Crete before their next choices, Poppy. These colors are scrumptious! Not much of any color to be found outside around here yet, just a few green shoots peeking up out the ground, and the beautiful jade of moss.

Crayola, do you know that is what R.H. still calls crayons? That's the way he learned it many years ago and that's what it has remained.

Orange peel, love the color! Can feel the juice dribbling down my chin.

  13. These colors remind me of sherbet. Scrumptious!

The picture of the house is the background intrigues me. The shape of the roof is lovely. Wish more buildings were built that way.

You certainly don't lack for inspiration in your neck of the woods.

  59. How pretty the red, white, and blue sails sails look against the powdery blue of the sky and the deep blue of the sea. After the stormy winter skies and the ice and snow that have prevailed here in Ohio for way too long this year, the images of your beautiful countryside offers hope that we may see beautiful sails billowing against fluffy white clouds and back-lit with sunshine from the shore of Lake Erie in the not too distant future (that would be after the several feet of ice covering the lake melts of course).
